Wedding bells were ringing this weekend as my youngest daughter, Mallorie got married. The happy couple are now off to Paris for a week to enjoy everything that amazing city has to offer. The last three days have been a whirlwind for me, so I can only imagine what it must have been like for them.
Friday night was the rehearsal dinner at Papillon Bistro in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. The food was absolutely fabulous and enjoyed by all. We had a choice of three appetizers, main course and dessert. I highly recommend you visit them if you get the chance. The prices are reasonable and the staff magnificent.
The next morning we all met at the Wedding Venue, The Aurora Gallery in Queens, for the rehearsal. After that it was off to our rooms to get ready for the event at 5:00 PM. My sister and I went down the street to a brand new restaurant “5” that was only serving lunch in a pre-launch served from the food truck they had parked outside. They are so new that I can’t even give you a link to their website that isn’t even available yet! But, here is a picture of our lunch. We both had sliders with hand cut french fries. Her’s were turkey and mine beef. The house made coleslaw was the most unique and delicious I have ever tasted! Everything they serve is organic and good for you! (HA!) They are located right on the corner of 36th Ave. and 37th St. in Astoria, Queens. We spoke with the staff and they are planning weekly music with local artists. Another great place to visit.
And we are’t done yet! A fabulous time was had by all at the Wedding and reception that night and then we headed off to an after-party at another great location, The Astoria Tavern. The place was PACKED! Lots of good drinks, Karaoke and just plain fun! I think a few folks might actually have been there to close the place!
The next morning, or actually 12:00 noon, we went to my favorite place of the entire weekend, as far as the food goes anyway. Although the location and atmosphere was nice as well. Also in Queens, The Queens Kickshaw. These folks have brunch nailed! Just take a look at this sampling of food that was brought to our table. I had the ‘Fresh’ Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese. Not any ordinary grilled cheese either! Check out the menu.
After all that and a fun weekend, it was all I could do to drive home and fall into my recliner, watch some football and take a nap! New York city can be fun but … “There’s no place like home”.
